New Verona Stadium: Preliminary Conferenza dei Servizi Gets Underway at Palazzo Barbieri
VERONA – The Preliminary Conferenza dei Servizi convened by Mayor Damiano Tommasi on 15 October to examine the proposal for the new stadium submitted by Hellas Verona FC opened today in the Sala Gozzi at Palazzo Barbieri.
Representing the Gialloblù Club at the meeting were Executive President Italo Zanzi, Chief Operating Officer Giuseppe Bruno and Stadium Manager Andrea Poncato. Also in attendance, supporting the Club, were representatives of the multidisciplinary team of strategic and technical partners comprising Gensler, Colliers, Linklaters, Sportium, Arup, iDEAS and KPMG.
The proceedings were opened by Mayor Tommasi and architect Andrea Alban, the Project Manager (RUP), who outlined the stages of the administrative process. President Zanzi and representatives of the working group then presented the technical, architectural and strategic details of the project.
Following the meeting, Mayor Tommasi and President Zanzi made the following statements.
Damiano Tommasi, Mayor of Verona:
“Today's meeting provided an opportunity to present not only the project proposed by Hellas Verona, but also the various studies and all the professionals involved in the legal, structural, engineering and design aspects. The Club's proposal sets out a wide-ranging regeneration plan: in addition to the new stadium, the plan includes a temporary stadium at Via Sogare, the redevelopment of the Olimpia training pitches and the repurposing of the facilities at the antistadio. Confirmation of Verona's inclusion among the candidate host cities for UEFA Euro 2032 is expected before the conclusion of this preliminary phase, which is scheduled for early December. The next step will be for the proposer to submit the final project, a key milestone in securing recognition of its public interest and proceeding with the subsequent tender process. We were pleased to welcome not only Hellas Verona's executives, but also all the other professionals involved, who appear to be of the highest calibre.”
Italo Zanzi, Executive President of Hellas Verona FC:
“Today's meeting represented a crucial and constructive opportunity to present the new stadium project to the City Administration and all the authorities involved. I would like to thank the Municipality of Verona for its productive and respectful spirit of institutional cooperation. We have brought together a team of leading professionals at local, national and international level, with the aim of creating lasting value not only for our Club, but above all for our supporters and the entire Veronese community. We remain fully available to provide any further technical information and clarification required. Our studies and assessments of the project's economic and financial viability demonstrate that it is a robust and sustainable undertaking, capable of generating significant positive benefits not only for the Club, but also for the local area. We are proposing and are committed to delivering a modern, multipurpose facility operating 365 days a year and hosting international concerts and events, in addition to football matches. Today's technologies make it possible to manage events scheduled close together efficiently, safeguarding the quality of the playing surface while fully respecting the quality of life of the surrounding urban area. We are delighted to be able to move this project forward. It represents an extraordinary opportunity for the Club, our supporters, the city of Verona and its residents.”
