Verona - Symbols, colors and tradition. We can synthesize with these three words the formula used by Hellas Verona FC in the creation of the logo that will celebrate the first 120 years since the birth of the Club of Verona. Created in collaboration with Verona-based Studio Fantastico, the logo dedicated to 'Hellas 120' - the set of initiatives for this important anniversary - will be used on all online and offline channels of the Club in the week from April 3 to 8. In fact, the culminating point will be the match between Hellas Verona and Sassuolo, scheduled for Saturday, April 8 (8:45 p.m.) at the 'Bentegodi,' when the stadium will be dressed in yellow and blue to wish a happy birthday to Hellas.

THE HISTORICAL FACT

The story, which has the contours of legend, is well known: 'Hellas' means 'Greece' in Greek and owes this name to its birth in 1903 within the oldest classical high school in Italy, Verona's Scipione Maffei. Ancient Greek is, it is known, the symbolic language of this school, and the idea of naming the team after it is due to Professor Decio Corubolo, a teacher - precisely - of ancient Greek.

What, on the other hand, has never been known for sure, and may never be known, is the day Hellas was born. A normal fact, if one thinks that it was born as a free initiative of students led by Count Carlo Fratta Pasini, kicking a ball for the first time inside the splendid cloister of the Liceo, in the interval between classes.

The new element is represented by a document found in recent months within the school's archives, which allows us for the first time to give a specific period, and not just a year, to the birth of Hellas.

This document, dated April 16, 1903 and signed by a school employee, contains an order for "balls for the game of football," as "the old ones no longer exist." As of April 16, 1903, therefore, soccer was certainly being played at the Liceo Scipione Maffei.

The Society's intent was to find, based on this, a conventional date to share with anyone who at least once felt their heart beat for these colors, and the choice fell on April 8, when Verona will face Sassuolo in a Bentegodi, for the occasion, painted yellow-blue.

The entire week beginning April 3 will actually be dedicated to the club's 120th anniversary, with many other initiatives to be unveiled soon.

THE SHIELD OF VERONA
The city banner of Verona - which stands on the front of Palazzo Barbieri, the city's town hall - is a yellow cross on a blue field. The same coat of arms that we find on Hellas jerseys since its inception. Even before the color of the jerseys became yellow-blue (the first ever jerseys were black and white), the shield of Verona, reproduced here, appeared on the players' chests.

THE HELLAS SCRIPT
This was the name of the club at the time of its birth in 1903. Verona was added later, as a result of various mergers that occurred in the early days of Italian soccer, and retained to emphasize the team's connection with the city. The font used is a modern take on the one that has appeared since its inception on documents relating to the Club, with the two "L" contained within each other.

120 YEARS
Unmistakable is the message conveyed by the ribbon that closes the lower part of the logo, giving it elegance and verticality: the simple inscription '120 ANNI', with the font currently used by the Club, to create a link between the Hellas of 1903 and that of today.
